|In the early 1990s, the MIT Black Jack Team mastered the art of card counting and took Vegas casinos for millions in winnings. Their story was told in the hit film 21.Team Member Katie Byl is now a professor of electrical and computer engineering at UC-Santa Barbara, preparing to compete in this summer’s DARPA Robotics Challenge (against local favorites, IHMC). She will be our special guest April 17th and 18th for two special events open to the public.

Friday, April 17
Join us for a special screening of 21. Katie Byl will kick off the evening with stories of the real MIT Black Jack team on which the movie is based. Tickets will be sold at the door. Event will be held outside under a tent at the MESS Hall, 116 N. Tarragona St. Movie is rated PG-13.
Saturday, April 18
MESS Hall Raises the Stakes is a casino-themed fundraiser where guests explore probability and random chance in a fun environment. In addition to traditional casino games, we will have special games by the MESS Hall. Katie will be on hand all evening to teach guests the fundamentals of black jack and card counting.
Admission includes 2 Fun Tickets per person. Each fun ticket can be used for either a drink or $50 in chips. Additional chips can be purchased at $10 per $50 in chips. Heavy hors d’oeuvres and cash bar. Event is for ages 21+.
