Weekend Assistant

Weekend Assistant

The Pensacola MESS Hall is seeking candidates to assist with weekend programs and groups. The employee will work on an as needed basis to assist staff with birthdays and special events. Assists guests with check in and ensures guests are satisfied with their visit. Assists with general maintenance and upkeep. Engages visitors in exploring hands on science activities. Enforces all rules and regulations promptly and professionally and notifies other staff of concerns.

Qualifications & Skills

Must be at least 16 years old.
Must maintain a high level of concentration for extended periods of time.
Ability to work with attention to detail.
Customer service and strong communication skills desirable.
Enthusiasm for hands-on programs in science is essential.

Physical demands: This job requires full vision, hearing, and speech. The environment is loud, with large fans and visitor noise. 

This is a part-time, hourly, non-exempt position. However, in the event this employee works more than 40 hours in a given workweek, the employee will be compensated at the overtime rate required by law.

Program Assistant

The Pensacola MESS Hall is looking for a Program Assistant (Part-Time). This employee is a critical member of a small team and is primarily responsible for assisting with a variety of programs, including outreach programs. Assists visitors and students with activities in a friendly and positive manner. Provides knowledgeable answers to inquiries about the exhibits, activities, and programs. Works effectively with and supervises volunteers, including high school students. Provides general upkeep and maintenance.

Work Schedule

This position is part-time, as-needed. Will require some weekend work. Work schedule will be determined based on employee needs as well as scheduled programs.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Some college work. Interest in science, math, or engineering or education. Must be able to pass a Level II background check.

Preferred Skills

Enthusiasm for the development and delivery of hands-on programs in science, engineering, math and technology is essential. Experience in an informal or formal teaching environment is preferred. Applicants should demonstrate enthusiasm for working with children.

Physical Requirements 

Physical demands: This job requires a large range of physical abilities, including lifting things of up to 25 lbs., standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, manual dexterity, crouching, and full vision, hearing, and speech.
